Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. We require all diggers to wear an MVMM hardhat as they are specifically for the mine. They have our contact information on them in case of an emergency and once you purchase your MVMM hardhat, you are officially an MVMM member! Bring your hardhat for your next dig, and you won't have to purchase again.   We do not rent out hardhats, purchase only. 

Please check out our MVMM School of Hard Rock: Build your tool kit page below for our suggested tools. Unfortunately, we do not have tools on site for diggers to use at this time. 

We recommend all diggers wear boots and clothing that they don't mind get dirty. We do dig in the rain and snow, so check the weather prior to your scheduled dig to be sure of what to wear. Flip flops, crocs and open toed shoes are not permitted.

We recommend the following locations for overnight accommodations, all within a 30 minute drive from the mine:

• Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndham Johnstown 
• Super 8 by Wyndham Johnstown/Gloversville 
• Holiday Inn Johnstown-Gloversville
• Super 8 by Wyndham Cobleskill NY

Once you arrive, you will check in at our Rock Shack. Then one of our staff will drive you down into the mine on trails via a Gator Utility Vehicle. 

Yes! One thing that sets MVMM apart from other local mines is that we let our customers keep whatever they find in our mine, free of additional charges! Once you pay your dig fee, you're good to go.

While we hope all of our diggers find something during their time at MVMM, it is not a guarantee. Unfortunately, not everyone finds a goodie (or big crystal).
